20 Worst Things About Life After The SHTF
That’s the title of this post from the Urban Survival Site. The thrust of the post is about an end of the world as we know it situation. But all of them apply equally in less “severe” disasters. And therein lies the problem – how can you prepare for all of them?
Well, you can and all at once if you’re rich. But, if you’re a poor sod like me, you’re going to have to follow my mantra, which is – analyse and prioritize.
OK, great, what does that mean EXACTLY and how do I get started EXACTLY? I put exactly in caps because my kids are always saying I don’t explain things clearly enough, while I think I yammer on too much. Oh well, you can’t please everyone, eh? So here’s a starting point to analyse and prioritize your situation.
Create a Threat Matrix. I don’t think you can get any clearer than that. It’s a simple form to fill in and it shows you immediately, at a glance, EXACTLY what your threats are in priority order.
Then read my Prepping 101 – Getting Started and be sure to follow the link to my rookie mistakes.
And at some point you’re going to need an Emergency Response Plan.
If you’ve read those, then you can see why I also always say, there is no one size fits all when it comes to prepping. We all have unique individual needs. I think you can also see that prepping is a never-ending learning, planning and implementing process – in other words – prepping is a life style. Don’t worry, all preppers were beginners, well, at the beginning! And it’s helpful to know that there are distinct stages preppers go through. Knowing these stages in advance, will help you prepare more intelligently.
And if you want to get even more insight into what could happen and how you can deal with it, read “Lights Out”. Of course, reading my site and many of the other fine prepping sites will provide you with all the information you will need.
Bottom line as I like to say is, “Do something!”
