Hoarding Fast Food Condiments? Read This!
Do you hoard those little fast food packets of ketchup, mustard or taco sauce? Many people do since they’re free and they grab them by the handfuls! No real problem with that. They’re small and fit right into an everyday carry (EDC) bag, the glove box or just throw them in a plastic tub at home. But like most food stuffs, these too have expiration dates – they’re just not printed on the packet!
The expiration dates for these fast food condiments isn’t printed on the individual packets; instead its printed on the box they come in. You, the consumer, has no idea how long these condiment packages will last. For preppers, knowing the expiration dates of their food stuffs, including condiments, is important.
Fast Food Condiment Life Expectancies
So here’s a list of common fast food condiments and their life time expectancies. Remember, salt, sugar and honey never go bad. While this list refers to when these fast food condiments lose their flavor, I’d say it’s time to throw them out if they are losing their flavor. See Outdoor Herbviore for more details.
|BBQ Sauce||1 year|
|Tartar Sauce||1 year|
|Horseradish Sauce||1 year|
|Maple Syrup||1 year|
|Nut Butters – Almond, Peanut, Cashew||1 year|
|Salad Dressing||1 year|
|Olive Oil||1 – 2 years|
|Parmesan Cheese||1 – 2 years|
|Taco sauce||1 – 2 years|
|Mustard||1 – 2 years|
|Soy Sauce||1 – 2 years|
|Tabasco sauce||3 – 4 years|
|Pepper||3 – 4 years|
|Vinegar||3 – 4 years|
Remember, these dates aren’t exact but good guidelines to go by. If you store them at home, you might want separate them by condiments and put a date label on the container. If you have them in an EDC or glove box, you might want to get a small container and label it.
Also, sealed, foil packets are the best as the paper ones can easily get damaged.
