More Prepping Supplies You’re Probably Not Stocking
“Do you have a chainsaw? They’re often used following a weather disaster (downed trees, etc…). Do you have a spare chain for it? What about a spare bar? What about a spare chainsaw? (two is one and one is none?)
Do you have a furnace for home heating? Do you have a spare ignitor (a fairly common point of failure)?
Do you have plumbing in your house? (of course you do) Assuming you can do-it-yourself, do you have spare pipe, fittings, torch, etc…?
Do you rely on a well pump? What about a spare pump?
Do you have an alternative energy system powering your home? Do you have a spare charger or inverter? Although expensive to set aside, it may be something to consider. Perhaps setting in a DIY ‘Faraday cage’?
Do you have firearms? What about spare springs, bolts, pins, etc…?
Do you have a bicycle? Spare tubes, tires, a spare wheel?”
I’m sure you can think of a lot more like, spare flashlight bulbs and spark plugs for your generator, etc.
And once you stock the spare parts, do you know how to fix some of these things? Replacing a chainsaw bar may be challenging if you’ve never done it. Notice they say this in regards to plumbing: ” Assuming you can do-it-yourself, do you have spare pipe, fittings”. Well, can you do it yourself? What can you do if you have the spare parts but lack the knowledge to do the repair? I’m glad you asked, because I’m betting there’s something else you don’t have – A survival tablet!
Think about it. If you had a survival tablet – Kindle, iPad, laptop – filled with free ebooks on home repair and a solar charger for it, you’ve got a whole library in your hands; and you can power it in a grid down situation. What’s more, you can download YouTube videos that show you step by step how to do the repair!
