Son’s Latest Knife and Next Project
My son’s best friend recently got married and he promised to make him a hand made Sgian-dubh (pronounced ski n du for my American readers). Here’s how WikePedia describes it:
As this was going to be a special present for his best friend, I bought him some knife blank steel. Here’s a picture of the raw steel.
And here’s the almost finished knife. He just needs to do a little work on the blade edge. He didn’t make the sheath. That was bought from these fine folk at Loch Ness. Yes. that Lock Ness!
For his next project, he’s turning a set of hold hedge shears into two knifes. Here’s a picture of start of the project.
He took the blades apart, cleaned up one blade and started taking off the old handle. Here’s a picture of that.
Next, he’s going to heat and forge the tang to straighten and widen it out. Then he’ll drill holes and attach scales to the form the handle. I’ll post some pics when he’s done.
